Larry Izon

Commercial and Residential Installation Manager

Born in Campbell River in 1970, Larry Izon moved all over B.C. His entrepreneurial parents had a penchant for buying, improving and selling businesses, resulting in the family relocating on a frequent basis. By the time he was a teenager, Larry had moved a total of seven times. He eventually ended up in Ladysmith, where he graduated from Ladysmith Secondary School in 1988.

In 1990, Larry enrolled in the Heavy Duty/Transport Mechanics Program at Malaspina College (now Vancouver Island University). Larry completed his first year, but shortly there after, his parents needed management help at their family restaurant in Nanaimo where he worked for the next couple years.

He entered into the retail electronics business in 1993, initially working for ProCar-Audio in Nanaimo before being hired by McKay’s Electronics in December of 1995.  He was asked to work in both Courtenay and Campbell River with a focus on building the company clientele. When it became too busy to handle the workload, he was offered his choice of the two locations. Larry chose Campbell River where he worked his way up from car installer to Assistant Manager.

During his twenty years in the Campbell River location, Larry took advantage of every opportunity available to increase his industry knowledge and expand his formal training. This included completing his LO FSR (Low Volt – Field Safety Representative) Electrical Ticket, along with his MECP (Mobile Electronics Certification Program) Certification, while continuing to work on his CEDIA (Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association) Certification.

Larry has also received numerous commendations over the years for his work.  He was voted the “Best Car Installer” in BC, Western Canada and Canada two years in a row, both 1998 and 1999. In addition, he has amassed over 70 certificates and awards from various manufacturers.

In October 2015, when a new division was created to better serve their clients, McKay’s Electronics offered Larry the position of Commercial and Residential Installation Manager.
